DID YOU KNOW:

Liberty Art Jam was initially nothing but a dream.
Built from scratch, we created an art space built on “liberty”. A safe haven for creative freedom where people would come together to discover themselves and meet others. Here, vulnerability finds a home as art becomes a medium for freedom of expression, exploration and play.
After years of countless tweaks and support from the community, Liberty Art Jam officially launched as an indie studio in January 2016

WHAT IS
THE HONOUR SYSTEM?

Liberty Art Jam endorses a philosophy called The Honour System. It counts on people’s fairness and judgement: in our case, the Giving Guide of SGD$35 per session. We adapted this system because we believe in the empathy and discretion of the community (read: you!) with whom we engage.

We believe that you will honour the rate provided by our Giving Guide, and if you are able, that you may give a little more than S$35 for the rainy days - days when you or people around you are not able to afford the usual rate.

As an independent art studio (not a charity initiative!), we understand how difficult some days may be for you and the people around you. Keeping our studio alive through The Honour System, we aspire to continue delivering quality service to people from all walks of life to share the experience, wholly made possible by the generosity and kindness within you and me.

LIBERTY'S MISSION

Here at Liberty Art Jam, we do not believe in hierarchies. Absolutely anyone can paint regardless of the backgrounds

we come from.

Liberty Art Jam wishes to provide a non-judgemental environment for absolutely anyone to experience the magic of art-making. Modern life is all about productivity and chasing results; for us, creating art is hence a much-needed reminder to be in the moment and live in the process.

We would like to invite you to embrace vulnerability once again, and make dear memories (perhaps even friends!) along the way.

HOW IT STARTED?

On a quiet night in July, while indulging in a reverie over some wine and music, the concept of liberty caught our minds. We dreamt about a communal art space where people can come together and paint, where people would be given as much creative freedom as they would have if they were in their own spaces.

We would call it ‘Liberty Art Jam’.

After pouring weeks of blood, sweat and tears in refining the concept—improving the layout of the studio and stocking up the materials for our art jammers—we launched two sessions of Liberty Art Jam on 2 August 2015 via meetup.com. 15 people turned up and we raised a total of $364 in a two meaningful and engaging sessions.

Following the first two months of hosting Liberty Art Jam sessions, we thought, why don’t we turn this into something more sustainable in the long run? It could become a regular communal art space for anyone and everyone. It could provide a familiar and intimate environment for a growing community to paint, escape the rat race and break away from hectic environments.

Painting is a therapeutic activity that benefits Singaporeans because it teaches us to slow down and embrace the moment. Hence, we have decided to organise regular Liberty Art Jam sessions to kickstart our journey towards a gracious and sustainable communal art space.

CHARITY INITIATIVE?

No, we are a for-profit company with a social element.
